Beginning of Construction of the Shelter in the Rainforest
April 4, 2023

At Garúa, we are proud to take part in the start of a key project for ecological tourism in Panama: the construction of the Tourism Guide Training Center led by the Avifauna Eugene Eisenmann Foundation, with the support of the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP).
With an investment of 75,000 USD, the project will be developed at the Panama Rainforest Discovery Center in Gamboa, where unused structures will be repurposed into training rooms and accommodations for scientists, students, and tour guides. The new center is expected to open by the end of 2023, offering a specialized training space in birdwatching tourism.
As Líder Sucre, Vice President of the Avifauna Foundation, highlighted, this initiative goes far beyond a physical building: it is an essential step in building the human capital the country needs. In a sector where meaningful experiences are at the heart of tourism, preparing highly trained guides will make a significant impact for both visitors and local communities.
The Center aims to strengthen birdwatching tourism as a driver of conservation and sustainable development, providing opportunities for a new generation of guides passionate about biodiversity. With its extraordinary variety of bird species, Panama now has a platform to reinforce its position as a world-class destination for eco-tourism.
At Garúa, we are honored to contribute to this initiative and reaffirm our commitment to projects that integrate sustainability, education, and conservation.
