Garúa contributes to research presented at CISBAT 2025

September 3, 2025

At Garúa, we are proud to have taken part in CISBAT 2025, where the study Balancing acoustic and thermal comfort: How urban noise limits natural ventilation potential in Mediterranean cities was presented. The research was developed in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and funded by Estudio Garúa, S.A.

The study addresses a critical challenge for sustainable architecture in urban contexts: how noise restricts the feasibility of natural ventilation, one of the most effective passive strategies for improving thermal comfort and reducing energy use in Mediterranean (Csa) climates. Through acoustic measurements and thermal simulations in a typical apartment in Barcelona’s Eixample district, the research showed that the benefits of natural ventilation can be reduced by 24% when acoustic constraints are considered.

Our participation in CISBAT 2025 reflects Garúa’s commitment to applied research, integrating sustainability, environmental comfort, and occupant well-being into architectural practice. We believe that insights generated in the academic field are essential to transforming real-world projects in Latin America and contributing to the design of more livable cities.
